MAITLAND, Fla. – Wymore Road is a step closer to reopening after a large sinkhole opened earlier this month.
Crews filled the sinkhole and, on Wednesday, drilled test borings to make sure the area was compact enough to support a new roadway. Those boring holes go as deep as 85 feet, allowing engineers to look for any underground openings.

The sinkhole opened on May 15 in Wymore Road near Maitland Boulevard, just east of I-4.
It took several days and thousands of gallons of water to get the hole stabilized.
Once engineers are satisfied with the boring test, each boring hole will be filled with concrete grout. After that dries, crews will be able to rebuild the road itself.
Until then, Wymore Road will remain closed between Maitland Boulevard and Brightwater Circle.
