Electric dirt bike rider flees officers at 70 mph on New Smyrna Beach sidewalk, bike seized

Rider used golf cart paths, wooded trails to evade police near Luna Bella Lane, Airport Road

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla – New Smyrna Beach Police Department officers attempted to stop an electric dirt bike operator Thursday afternoon after the rider was observed traveling approximately 50 mph on a sidewalk near Luna Bella Lane and Airport Road in violation of Florida law.

According to a Facebook post by NSBPD, the rider refused to stop and fled, reaching speeds exceeding 70 mph. During the chase, the rider used golf cart paths and wooded trails in an attempt to evade officers.

According to authorities, the electric dirt bike — also known as an e-moto or electric motorcycle — was later found abandoned in a wooded area. The rider was not located. The bike was seized and the investigation remains ongoing.
