DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened early Sunday at Derbyshire Park in Daytona Beach, authorities said.
The Daytona Beach Police Department said officers first responded to a local hospital after receiving reports of a patient with a gunshot wound. Investigators later determined the shooting occurred at Derbyshire Park.

Police said an adult man and an adult woman were parked together at the park when they were approached by a man they did not know, leading to a disagreement. DBPD said the unknown man allegedly displayed a firearm.
According to investigators the male victim got his own firearm and told the man to leave.
Police said the unknown man began walking away, then turned and fired multiple shots, striking the male victim. Police said the male victim returned fire, striking the unknown man.
After the shooting, the injured man and woman drove themselves to a local hospital for treatment, police said. Officers later found the other involved person dead at the park, according to the department.
All parties have been identified, police said, but names are being withheld as detectives work to determine the full circumstances.
Investigators said the motive remains unclear and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
