Man shot in Orange City shopping plaza parking lot; suspects sought

A 46-year-old man was shot in the lower back; police said his injuries are not life-threatening.

ORANGE CITY, Fla – Orange City police are investigating a shooting that left a 46-year-old man wounded Friday morning in the parking lot of Ollie’s Bargain Outlet at Market Place Plaza, the department said.

Officers responded around 10:40 a.m. Saturday to reports of a disturbance that escalated into gunfire, police said.

At the scene, officers found a 46-year-old white man with a gunshot wound to the lower back. He was taken to a local hospital, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The victim and the suspects did not know each other, according to a preliminary investigation. Police said a verbal altercation occurred in the parking lot, and the male passenger of a vehicle fired at the victim, striking him.

The suspects fled immediately in a four-door black Mazda passenger car, police said. The shooter was described as a Hispanic man, and the driver as a white woman.

The investigation remains active, and additional details will be released as they become available, police said.
