OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Two 5-year-old children were taken to the hospital Friday after being found unresponsive in a pool at a Kissimmee vacation home.

The home is located along Ruby Lane, in a neighborhood off Poinciana Boulevard near Oren Brown Road.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says the two young girls were part of a family who were visiting from Georgia.

The girls were airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital after being found at the bottom of the pool. Both of them were later pronounced dead.

An OCSO spokesperson told News 6 that the four adults staying there had gone out that morning to grab food, and a 15-year-old was left in charge. That’s reportedly when the twins were found in the pool.

“Unfortunately, this is a tragedy. We want to remind people: pool safety is No. 1 this time of year, and a lot of the drownings and near drowning in the county occur in the rental properties,” said OCSO Public Information Officer Kim Montes.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said the medical examiner will determine the cause of death, and homicide detectives are investigating the drowning.
