This decade-old Central Florida cold case may have just been cracked

Calvin Washington, 34, faces charges of murder and armed robbery

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Over a decade after a woman was killed during an armed robbery, Orange County deputies announced they’ve finally pinned a suspect.

The incident originally happened back in September 2012, when the woman — identified as Ying Sun — was murdered “execution-style,” deputies said.

According to investigators, a masked gunman had stormed into a China Wok along North Pine Hills Road shortly before 8:30 p.m.

“When he came up to one of the workers, there was a language barrier,” a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said at the time. “She didn’t understand what he was saying, and he shot her.”

But on Wednesday, deputies said they secured an arrest warrant for 34-year-old Calvin Washington.

“Detectives were able to link Washington to the murder and armed robbery through DNA evidence recovered from clothing, gloves, and money collected during the investigation,” the sheriff’s office stated.

Per investigators, Washington is currently serving 30 years in prison from an incident in Ocala, where he beat his girlfriend and stabbed a neighbor who tried to help her.

Now, he faces even more charges of first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm in connection to this case.

“We are grateful for our detectives’ efforts to bring answers to the Sun family and to help ensure a violent criminal remains off our streets,” deputies wrote.
