DELAND, Fla. – A driver who crashed into a pole was arrested on Tuesday evening after colliding with a firetruck earlier in the day, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
In a release, troopers said the incident stems from around 4:08 p.m., when they were investigating a separate rollover crash along West International Speedway south of Indian Lake Road in Daytona Beach.

At the time, first responders were attending to possible injuries of a 44-year-old Miami man, but another driver — riding in a 2020 Honda Civic — collided with a fire truck at the scene, troopers added.
The Civic driver then tried to flee the scene, though Volusia County deputies and FHP troopers soon gave chase, which ended when the driver ran off the roadway and struck a pole at International Speedway Boulveard and Amelia Avenue, investigators explained.
“The suspect exited (the Civic) and attempted to flee on foot,” the release reads. “Subsequently, our trooper was able to apprehend the suspect and take him into custody.”
The suspect was identified as a 27-year-old DeLand man, though no name has been provided at this time. He was taken to the hospital to be medically cleared before being transported to jail.
Meanwhile, the suspect also faces the following pending charges:
- Leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage
- Reckless driving
- Resisting without violence
- Violation of probation
“The firefighters were not injured from the original incident,” the release continues. “The roadblock in the area has been cleared.”
