Deputy-involved shooting in Marion Oaks leaves man critically injured

Man threatened deputy with firearm during domestic disturbance call, sheriff’s office says

MARION OAKS, Fla. – A Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot a man Tuesday afternoon after the man threatened the deputy with a firearm, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call on SW 35th Avenue Road, where they encountered the armed man. A deputy opened fire, striking the man.

Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported the man to the hospital in critical condition. His name has not been released.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been notified and will investigate the shooting, which is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings.
