ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando International Airport (MCO) is moving up.

According to new rankings released by Airports Council International North America (ACI-NA), MCO jumped from ninth to seventh in the nation for passenger traffic in 2025 — and remains the busiest airport in Florida and 25th in the world.

The airport served 57,675,573 passengers in 2025, a slight increase from 57,211,628 the year before. International travel played a key role in that growth, with three new transatlantic nonstop routes launching to Munich, Madrid and Paris.

“These numbers are reflective of Central Florida’s continued growth and global appeal,” said Lance Lyttle, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “They also show why it is important to embrace a strategic vision that focuses on enhancing customer service while addressing critical infrastructure needs.”

Lyttle, who took over as MCO’s CEO in April 2025, is now steering a sweeping $6 billion, 10-year plan to keep pace with that growth. The “Elevating MCO & ORL: The Vision Forward” strategy — approved by the GOAA board in October 2025 — includes 8,000 new parking spaces, a new baggage handling system for Terminals A and B, and additional gate expansions, all targeted for 2030.

Longer term, plans call for completing Terminal C’s second phase by 2035 and eventually building Terminal D — a sign that MCO’s ambitions are far from grounded.
