OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – The School District of Osceola County is moving closer to installing stop-arm enforcement cameras on school buses.
Transportation Director Orville Watson told News 6 on Monday that the cameras are on the way.
“As far as the stop-arm enforcement cameras, that is still in the works but that will be coming down the pipe, but we are working on ensuring that is deployed efficiently,” Watson said.
The School District of Osceola County is set to vote on entering into a contract with Verra Mobility for the bus stop-arm cameras during its meeting on Tuesday.
Verra Mobility is the same contractor currently operating school zone speed detection cameras in Osceola County — cameras that have been offline since November 2025 due to legal challenges.

The district is looking to “piggyback” on an existing contract Lake County already has with Verra Mobility for its school buses, believing it is the best option.
Parent Albert Morales says he supports the move.
“I’m all for any safety regarding our children and considering that I have a child that goes here, I’m definitely pro that. So, I think it’s I think it’s a good idea, actually,” Morales said.
“Our children’s safety is the priority. So, I just think it’s extremely vital that us, as parents, just as people in general, are very attentive to that for the safety of our children.”
The stop-arm cameras, already in use in several other Florida counties, capture drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses.
In Brevard County, 18,000 violation notices were issued during the program’s first year, generating $1.3 million in fines.
Similar to the school zone speed cameras, recordings captured by the bus stop-arm cameras would be reviewed by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office before a ticket is issued to the vehicle’s owner.
