Woman appears to use empty Amazon box as cover while stealing packages

Victims say surveillance videos appear to show the same woman and a similar silver car

AZALEA PARK, Fla. – An Orange County man is warning his neighbors after surveillance video captured a woman appearing to use an empty Amazon box as cover while stealing a package from his home.

Norlan Torres said the theft happened Aug. 12 at his home in the Azalea Park area.

The video shows a woman walking toward the house carrying an Amazon box. Torres said she appeared to notice a camera as she approached, then left the box she was carrying behind and took a package that had already been delivered to his home. He said the box she brought with her was empty.

“I mean, actually, I was pissed,” Torres said. “Because basically, like, come on, how could you do that?”

Torres said his wife and daughter were home at the time. The stolen package, containing supplies his wife had ordered for making candles, had been delivered about an hour earlier.

He said having someone come onto the property while his family was inside made the theft especially concerning.

“You don’t know what these people are ready to do,” Torres said. “Something could happen to my family too.”

Torres posted the surveillance video on Nextdoor to warn other people in the area.

After News 6 saw his post, we found another nearby victim with video that appears to show a similar woman and a similar silver car.

Brittany DeJesus said her Ring camera recorded a theft on Aug. 9 at 1:26 p.m. She said a gray Ford Focus pulled into her driveway before a woman with red hair, a black T-shirt, shorts and tattoos on her left leg got out of the passenger side.

DeJesus said the woman appeared to duck to avoid her Ring camera before grabbing several Amazon packages and returning to the car, where a man was driving.

When the two surveillance videos are compared side by side, the women and the silver cars appear similar. Law enforcement has not confirmed that the incidents are connected or that the videos show the same person.

DeJesus said her stolen packages contained coffee, a candle, a mug and a stuffed pumpkin intended for a fall raffle at her job.

She said the stuffed pumpkin later turned up at another person’s home in the neighborhood after that person’s packages were also stolen. The neighbor returned it to her.

DeJesus said Amazon replaced her stolen items and she filed a police report and provided investigators with her video.

Torres said the package theft also made his daughter briefly fear that her medication had been stolen because she receives medicine through deliveries. Her medication had not been taken - Torres had already brought that package inside.

“Some people get medicine. Important stuff. Documents,” Torres said, explaining that someone stealing a sealed package has no way of knowing what is inside.

Torres said the deputy who responded to his home watched the surveillance video and collected the empty box the woman had left behind.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to News 6 that a report was filed Aug. 12 and deputies are investigating.

Because the case remains active and open, the sheriff’s office said it could not release the incident report.

Torres said he hopes sharing the video will help other neighbors recognize what is happening and ultimately help stop the thefts.

“Let the neighbors know what’s going on,” Torres said. “Maybe somebody could see her and report it.”
