Man hits Walmart employee with bag of stolen merchandise, deputies say

Officials say suspects stole 36 cartons of cigarettes

DELTONA, Fla. – Two men have been arrested after they stole approximately $2,500 worth of merchandise from a Deltona Walmart, according to officials from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. One of the men is also accused of hitting an employee with a bag full of the stolen merchandise.

Norris Mincey II and Anthony McFadden were arrested Sunday night and face charges of robbery without a weapon and grand theft. Mincey was also charged with battery and violation of probation.

Deputies said the stolen merchandise included 36 cartons of cigarettes, clothing and a shopping basket. Authorities said the suspects went behind the tobacco counter at the Walmart at 101 Howland Blvd. and loaded a backpack, the shopping basket and other bags with cigarettes while the counter was unattended. As the two men attempted to flee the scene, Mincey used one of the filled bags to knock the victim out of his way, according to authorities.

Another employee said he saw the men leave the scene in a small, gray car, which drove south on State Road 415, according to the incident's arrest report. The report states that deputies found and stopped the car a short time later.

VCSO helicopter video from the incident shows deputies pursuing and then arresting the suspects as they fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. Deputies said the victim and additional witnesses identified them as the men involved in the robbery.

Both Mincey and McFadden are being held in the Volusia County Jail. McFadden is being held in lieu of $15,000 bond, and Mincey is being held without bond.
