ORLANDO, Fla. - An Orlando police officer who was run down while on the job said he will never be able to return to the force.
Officer William Anderson was badly hurt when a car ran over him during a traffic stop in July 2015. He has undergone several surgeries and spent time at hospitals and rehab centers, but Anderson said Thursday that his injuries have forced him to retire.
"I would be back in a heartbeat if I could, but, unfortunately, all my doctors say I can't and will never be able to," Anderson said.
The city's police pension board decided Thursday to give Anderson 80 percent of his salary and full pension benefits.
Anderson served as an OPD officer for nine years.
