MILTON, Fla. – Attorney General James Uthmeier on Monday urged tougher prosecutions of repeat offenders.
Speaking at the Florida Department of Corrections’ Santa Rosa Correctional Institution, Uthmeier announced an 81-year prison sentence for a man accused of using drones to drop contraband into state prisons.
“Mario Crawford just landed an 81-year prison sentence after we caught him dropping drugs into this correctional institution, and our investigation is revealing that he probably dropped packages into dozens of other institutions across the state,” Uthmeier said.
He said Crawford had been convicted of 49 prior crimes and that contraband recovered so far — including cocaine, meth, cell phones, SIM cards, tobacco, and razor blades — was valued at more than $1.5 million.
Uthmeier called the case evidence that his office will “throw the book at you” and prosecute repeat offenders fully.
