Student arrested for having gun at Wekiva High School, deputies say

No threats made, school officials say

APOPKA, Fla. – A 17-year-old Wekiva High School student was arrested Friday after he was found with a loaded gun on campus, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Clevens Delice was arrested on charges of having a firearm on school grounds and possession of an altered firearm.

In a message to parents, the school principal said students told staff members that they had seen a Snapchat post showing a classmate with a gun on campus.

"Sheriff Demings applauds the student, who wants to remain anonymous, with the courage to see a potentially dangerous situation and notify the administration, (which is) the epitome of, 'see something, say something,'" the Orange County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The school, located at 2501 Hiawassee Road in Apopka, was placed on lockdown until the student was located.

"it was like a regular day in fourth period, and then out of nowhere we were on lockdwon, and it was like for awhile," said Evelyn Suarez, who attends ninth grade at Wekiva High. "We thought it was a drill at first, but the lady didn't send the email to my teacher and she would have sent the email if it was a drill, so everybody had to be stay quiet and we were just sitting there."

"At no time was the weapon used in a threatening manner," the principal said.

"It's a scary thought. It's certainly an unnerving thought to think that could happen," student Celeste Palmer said.

Officials said Delice will be disciplined in accordance with the student code of conduct.

It's not known where Delice got the gun.
