Wallet mysteriously returns to owner, 100 miles away from where it disappeared

Apopka man searching for good Samaritan

APOPKA, Fla. – If you've ever lost your wallet, you know how much of a disaster it can become. For Marty Spear, he made the mistake on Saturday, more than a hundred miles from home, only to find his wallet hand delivered to his mailbox a few days later.

"It's not a short trip by far," he said, as he continued to wonder who made the 105-mile drive to his home to return the wallet. "There are still those little secret Santas out there."

Spear went to St. Augustine with his cousin and a friend last weekend, only to see their dazzling night under the lights turn into a frantic search party after he lost his wallet with his debit card and driver's license inside.

"I was going back retracing my steps to where I'd been, couldn't find it," he said. "You have to cancel things, it's a whole process you're going through and you're stressing out the whole time."

Spear was quite surprised when the wallet turned up in his mailbox with an additional $3, but without a return address, a stamp or an envelope.

The note, signed with an unknown initial, read: "Sorry it took me so long to get this back to you. I found it on the ground in St. Augustine outside a coffee shop. Here's three dollars for a (cheap) coffee on me!"
Spear now hopes to figure out who did the good deed, whether they are local to the area or not.

"That would be a great honor," he said. "I would love to sit down and have a cup of coffee with that person."

Spear told News 6 he's saving those three dollars that came in the mail in case he finds out who did this, so he can buy them a cup of coffee.
