It looks like shows are picking up at local community theatres and they want you to see all of the exciting shows theyāre working on!
Hey, Iām News 6 producer Brooke Savage, the writer behind this Setting The Stage newsletter.
Letās take a look at what we have going on. ⤵
⨠Explore the elements through this immersive show
Creative City Project is back with a new show being added to its lineup of events.
In collaboration with Play The Moment, āAnthology: Elementalā invites guests to explore the five classical elements: earth, water, air, fire and spirit.
Throughout the 70-minute experience, each themed poetic performance will be complemented with a custom cocktail. The goal is to create a multisensory journey through story and flavor.
The show will be at The Renaissance Theatre Company Aug. 15-17. I posted the details on what to expect here.
ā āSister Actā is set to perform at this Orlando theatre
The feel-good musical comedy based on the hit 1992 film is coming to an Orlando stage.
When disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, witnesses a murder, she has to go into hiding in a convent for protection.
The show from nonprofit theatre company, Little Radical Theatrics, is filled with gospel music, dancing and a story that pays homage to the universal power of friendship.
You can see the musical Aug. 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 17 at 3 p.m. inside Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater at the Dr. Phillips Center. I had the chance to hear from the main cast!
š Speaking of the Dr. Phillips Center ...
Changes are coming! Leaders with the center recently announced they have acquired two nearby properties that will help āmeet growing demandā and ācreate new opportunities.ā
The center said it invested $10.39 million for the two parcels, located at 42 E. Jackson St. and 36 E Jackson St.
So far, leaders have not said what exactly they plan to do with the new spaces, but hereās what we know so far.
š¼ Donāt forget to check out the Orlando Museum of Art for free!
The next āAccess for Allā day will be Thursday, Aug. 21.
This will also be the last event where the museum is partnering with eSight by Gentex Corporation to help visitors with vision loss use assistive technology.
The devices can help people with more than 20 different eye conditions and it allows people with central vision loss to experience enhanced vision.
I posted the details on how the devices work and why some say theyāre game changer.
