There’s a lot to cover in this week’s newsletter — from critical fire weather and ongoing drought concerns to beneficial rain on the way.

The drought conditions continue to grow across Central Florida — and you can read more about that in Chief Meteorologist Candace Campos’ latest story — but we’re finally tracking some beneficial rain.

A cold front is heading our way. It’s not bringing a blast of 20s and 30s, but it will boost our rain chances and it looks like many locations could pick up some helpful totals. Be sure to check out the full breakdown on timing and how much rain you could see.

During the offseason, every storm gets a final review report. On Wednesday, it was Melissa’s turn — and the update was a big one. Melissa’s peak winds were upgraded from 185 mph to 190 mph. That’s an incredible jump and a reminder of just how powerful that system was. You can read more about what changed and why in the full breakdown here.

Closer to home, we’re also dealing with a high rip-current risk along our beaches. Even on sunny, calm-looking days, rip currents can be dangerous.
