Man arrested after video shows dog being dangled over railing

Ransom J. May II faces animal cruelty charge

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police on Tuesday arrested a man who they say was captured on a Facebook video holding a dog by its neck over a second-floor railing.

Ransom J. May II, 23, turned himself in due to pressure from the media and detectives searching for him, police said. May has been charged with cruelty to animals.

The dog, named Cocaine, was found safe, according to police.

Orange County Animal Services said the incident occurred last week and was posted to Facebook on April 6.

The video shows a man holding a white dog over the railing of an apartment building at 120 McQuigg Ave. in Parramore for about two minutes.

"I was inside watching TV, I heard yelling and that's what the yelling was, about to let it go, don't do that, but the person didn't want to let go," said neighbor Zeneita Yulfo, who lives downstairs in the same apartment building. "The person just kept shaking and trying to choke."

She said she had never seen the man or the dog before. He eventually took the dog down the stairs and left with it.

"That's what I don't understand. Who would do that to a defenseless animal?" said Yulfo. "They don't do anything to you. And even if they did, what's so wrong that you would treat it like that?"

May was arrested shortly after the story was posted on ClickOrlando.com. He remains jailed on $1,000 bond.
