ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County Public Schools has announced a recent “cybersecurity incident” involving Instructure, the company that provides the district’s Canvas learning management system.
In a release, district officials said that Instructure had confirmed on May 2 that an “unauthorized third party gained access to certain user data within its systems.”

“According to Instructure, the information accessed may include names, email addresses, and student identification numbers,” the release reads. “They also indicated that some private messages sent within the platform may have been accessed.”
That said, the district assured that Instructure reported no evidence of passwords, Social Security numbers, birth dates, or any financial information being involved in the incident.
Now, the district is reviewing the situation and following all recommended security protocols provided by Instructure, the release shows.
“Please remain vigilant and be cautious of emails containing unexpected or questionable content, as they may be phishing attempts,” the release continues. “Report these messages immediately and delete them.”
