While “Mattie’s Law” stalled in the state legislature this spring, a $600,000 pilot program was approved.  “Mattie’s Biliary Atresia Newborn Screening Pilot Program” will begin with newborns at AdventHealth for Children.

With back to school right around the corner, a psychiatrist with AdventHealth for Children is sharing how parents can connect with their kids about mental health while also giving their child room to grow.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Dr. Michael Keating, chief medical officer at AdventHealth for Children, explained Thursday how COVID-19 is now impacting younger people more than before. Keating explained that even though younger people have a more robust immune system, they should still wear a mask to avoid a spread. On Wednesday, Orange County Public Schools announced the temporary shutdown of Timber Creek High School after reporting 14 positive cases. Ron DeSantis said that school closures should not happen and that only symptomatic students should stay at home. According to OCPS, students and staff should be able to return to campus on November 5th.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Patient-controlled robots are rolling through the hallways of a local hospital to encourage socialization. “Being stuck in a room can be just super isolating,” Chantelle Bennett, Child life manager at AdventHealth for Children said. Hospitals have had to make big changes during the coronavirus pandemic including keeping more patients in isolation and limiting family visitors. Since COVID, pretty much every patient, pediatric patient and familym is on isolation,” Bennett said. A grant from Champions for Children from AdventHealth Foundation Central Florida brought robots into the halls of AdventHealth for Children.
