Mané beats Salah as Senegal wins its 1st African Cup

Egypt missed twice in the shootout, meaning Salah, who was meant to be his team's last penalty taker, could do nothing but watch his club teammate win it. Senegal had lost two finals previously, including against Algeria at the last African Cup in Egypt in 2019, when Mané was left inconsolable. Senegal missed a series of chances in normal time and extra time, including Mané's early penalty, which was saved by Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal. Rare gorillas in Nigeria captured on camera with babies

This photo taken by a camera trap shows a group of Cross River gorillas in the Mbe Mountains of Nigeria on Monday, June 22, 2020. Conservationists have captured the first images of a group of rare Cross River gorillas with multiple babies in the Mbe mountains of Nigeria, proof that the subspecies once feared to be extinct is reproducing amid protection efforts. But Cross River gorillas are notoriously difficult to capture together on camera and no images had captured multiple infants. Cross River gorillas have been threatened for decades primarily by hunting but also by loss of habitat as residents cut down forests to make way for agriculture. About 100 Cross River gorillas have since been recorded in Nigeria's Cross River State and about 200 in Cameroon in a transborder region of about 12,000 square kilometers (4,633 square miles).

Regional governor Awa Fonka Augustine said it's been difficult for rescue workers to access the site of the disaster because of the slopes in the area.

World's biggest frogs strong enough to move heavy rocks

New research shows that Goliath frogs -- the world's largest frog species, found in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea -- build ponds for their eggs and tadpoles, moving rocks more than half of their body weight in the process. The heavy labor that the frogs do could explain their size, scientists believe. As well as being strong, the frogs have also proved themselves to be anxious parents, nurturing their young in ponds away from torrent rivers and potential predators. "This shows how little we know about the biology, even of some of the most spectacular creatures of our planet." Scientists hope the research will help conservation efforts dedicated to the rare frogs, which are considered endangered.

Trump's new asylum rules go into effect, and opponents sue

The policy represents the most forceful attempt to date by President Donald Trump to slash the number of people seeking asylum in America. Under the rules, migrants who pass through another country on their way to the U.S. will be ineligible for asylum. Most of the immigrants arriving at the border this year pass through Mexico including Central Americans, Africans, Cubans and Haitians. Asylum seekers must also pass an initial screening called a "credible fear" interview, a hurdle that a vast majority clear. Despite the policies, record numbers of immigrant families have been crossing the border this year, overwhelming border facilities and authorities.
