After watching former starting QB Dillon Gabriel transfer to Oklahoma University, the Knights landed his potential replacement on Sunday. The former Rebel’s most productive year came during his 2019 freshman season, where he played two different positions. Plumlee’s productive freshman season earned him a couple of accolades, which include freshman All-America recognition by The Athletic at the all-purpose position and being named to 247Sports’ True Freshman All-American team. The former Rebel appeared in seven games during the 2020 season, starting one of them at wide receiver. The sophomore Rebel also added 94 rushing yards on 25 total attempts on the year.

On the final play of UCF’s gut-wrenching Friday night loss against the Louisville Cardinals, Knights’ junior starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder, Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde reported. Gabriel left Cardinal Stadium with his left arm in a sling and with ice on his shoulder. The Knights’ QB received X-Rays immediately after the game, according to Forde. Gabriel finished the game completing 22-of-29 passes, throwing for 184 yards. Following a bye week, UCF will travel to Annapolis, MD to take on American Athletic Conference opponent Navy on Oct 2.

Along with UCF and Cincinnati, the Big 12 identified BYU and Houston as its primary expansion targets last week and then moved quickly to make it happen. Both of those schools, along with BYU and Houston, are expected to receive invitations to join the Big 12. For now though, the Big 12 appears focused on the additions and not how to facilitate the exits of the Longhorns and Sooners. If that holds true, the Big 12 could have up to 14 members for at least a season or two. The Big 12 brought in TCU and West Virginia, which are both now in their 10th league season.

O’Keefe’s elite speed allowed him to catch three passes for 97 yards and two scores in this matchup against Houston. Gabriel threw for 408 yards and four touchdowns to help UCF beat East Carolina 51-28 on Saturday, winning its American Athletic Conference opener for the fifth straight season in a game marked by the Knights' offensive brilliance and its early trouble with pre-snap penalties. “You never play a perfect game but we came out (and) we put 51 points up,” Gabriel said. Most notable on the Big Ten's schedule was how Nebraska will start the season: at Ohio State and home for Wisconsin. Nebraska had both Ohio State and Penn State on its original nine-game, pre-pandemic conference schedule, along with Rutgers. Nebraska has lost five straight against Ohio State, which has became a yearly rivalry since the Big Ten went to an East-West division structure. TULSA, Okla - The University of Central Florida committed 15 penalties for 120 yards in a 34-31 loss to Tulsa on Friday. UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw two interceptions in the loss. Tulsa outscored UCF 17-3 in the second half. UCF is now 7-3 on the year and 4-2 in the conference, and Tulsa is now 3-7 on the year and 1-5 in conference play. ORLANDO, Fla. - Dillon Gabriel passed for 298 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Tre Nixon, and ran for a score as Central Florida dominated the second half and beat Houston 44-29 on Saturday. Houston jumped out to a 10-0 lead on Mulbah Car's 37-yard TD run and a 45-yard field goal by Dalton Witherspoon. Gabriel scored on a 22-yard run midway through the second quarter to put the Knights up 21-17, but Witherspoon kicked two field goals in the final 4 minutes and Houston (3-6, 1-4) took a 23-21 lead into halftime. UCF beats Florida A&M 62-0 in home opener
Associated PressORLANDO, Fla. - Former Notre Dame star Brandon Wimbush threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns in his UCF debut, helping the 17th-ranked Knights open the season with a 62-0 rout of Florida A&M on Thursday night. Wimbush, who tossed TD passes of 37 and 12 yards to Gabriel Davis, was 13-2 as a starter over the past two years at Notre Dame.
