Actress Sylvia Syms, who starred in classic British films including “Ice Cold in Alex” and “Victim,” has died at the aged of 89.

Orlando Film Festival is rolling out the red carpet this week to once again showcase over 300 independent films from around the world.

It’s time for filmmakers all over the world to reel in their excitement because the 2023 Florida Film Festival is now accepting entries for its 32nd annual event.

Despite some challenges and changes to traditional student cinematic filmmaking practices, COVID-19 has done little to stop filmmakers from focusing on their craft and sharing their stories with the world. As a senior in the program, Pisarski said she believes UCF has gotten better over the years at showcasing student films through festivals but said she supports wider dissemination of student films. “There are local festivals that have screened UCF films as well, but I would love to see more opportunities for student films to be shown off-campus,” she said. When asked about current advertisement standards of student films at school, Duarte responded hopefully, stating, “I think UCF student films are adequately showcased on campus because we have UCF film exhibitions and the [student-run] UCF CAN!

Now more than ever it’s so important to lift up and amplify black artists and creators, which is why a new film festival was created to do just that. The inaugural Black Life Film Fest will take place Sept. 5, and luckily for people who are interested in watching the selected films, the film festival will happen virtually, from the comfort of your home. Swirl Films and Mansa Productions are producing the festival, and the people there are asking for short film submissions that fit any kind of category. From documentaries and comedies to drama or animation -- as long as the film shows the black experience, it is eligible for submission.
