Non-profit working to help teachers with supplies despite lack of back-to-school drives
Instead of teachers going inside shopping for their own supplies, it organized a curbside pickup to limit contact. The non-profit organization said there has been a 65% reduction in the number of companies running back-to-school supply drives. Drives they depend on to support teachers, many who pay out of pocket for supplies their students need to succeed. She said every dollar donated to the organization, is converted to $10 worth of school supplies distributed throughout the community. News 6 is hosting a phone bank next Aug. 27 between 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to help support A Gift for Teaching.
Gig workers face shifting roles, competition in pandemic

She said she enjoys the flexibility of choosing her own hours but hopes not to have to turn to gig work in the future. Gig workers are also jockeying for those jobs from all fronts. DoorDash launched an initiative to help out-of-work restaurant workers sign up for delivery work. But that $600 benefit will expire at the end of July, and the $2 trillion government relief package that extended unemployment benefits to gig workers expires at the end of the year.
Sam's Club announces alcohol delivery with grocery orders
Are you a Samโs Club member who might have been frustrated in the past about not being able to include alcohol on grocery-delivery orders? Samโs Club officials have announced that shoppers using Instacart for delivery of groceries and other household items to their door can now get same-day alcohol. The service will be available in 215 clubs throughout 11 states, so call your neighborhood Samโs Club to make sure this is available in your area before getting TOO excited. Samโs Cub officials said the service is expected to be added to more locations in the coming months. Customers ordering alcohol via Instacart must be 21 or older and are required to enter their date of birth at checkout and present a valid government ID at the time of delivery.
