NFL still considering scheduling options, Week 18 unchanged
The NFL is still considering various options following the suspension of the Bills-Bengals game, including possibly eliminating the bye week before the Super Bowl. The Bills-Patriots game set for Sunday and the rest of the Week 18 games remain on schedule. The pivotal Bills-Bengals game was suspended Monday night after Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin collapsed and went into cardiac arrest while making a tackle in the first quarter. NFL executive Jeff Miller said there has been no decision on whether to resume the Bills-Bengals game at a later date. The outcome of the game has major playoff implications because the Bills (12-3) entered Monday night as the AFC's No.

news.yahoo.comNFLPA calls on 6 venues to improve playing surfaces
The NFL Players Association is calling on six venues to change their current playing surfaces, saying the turf in those stadiums results in “statistically higher in-game injury rates” involving non-contact and lower-extremity injuries. NFLPA President JC Tretter said Saturday the league should ban “slit film” playing surfaces that are used in Cincinnati, Detroit, Indianapolis, Minnesota, New Orleans and New York (Jets and Giants). Tretter posted his statement on the NFLPA website.
news.yahoo.comNFL claims concussion protocols didn't fail Tua Tagovailoa on Sunday. That's hard to believe after Thursday's scary head injury
For days, the NFL told us our eyes were lying to us when it came to the health of Tua Tagovailoa's head. The confidence in the NFL and team’s decision with Tagovailoa following his on-field collapse last Sunday was already very thin. Certainly the NFL Players Association has significant doubts about the veracity of the process in that instance. It’s in the awkward position of having to protect Tagovailoa (and all players) against the team and themselves. “I can literally remember playing the Philadelphia Eagles on a Thursday night football game years ago myself — getting concussed, wobbling around, a referee actually removed me from the game,” Whitworth said.
wftv.comNFL pleased with Guardian Cap summer results
Guardian Caps helped reduce the number of concussions among NFL players mandated to wear the padded helmets during training camp, according to data from the league. Offensive linemen, defensive linemen, tight ends and linebackers were required for the first time to wear Guardian Caps during practice between the start of training camp until the second preseason game. “The benefits of the Guardian Caps exceeded our expectations so far,” NFL executive Jeff Miller said Wednesday. He said more than 200 players continued to wear the Guardian Caps after the mandate ended. A decision has not been made about the use of Guardian Caps in 2023 and beyond.
wftv.comNFL's probe into Commanders, Dan Snyder still ongoing
The NFL’s investigation into Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder is still ongoing, and his status remains unchanged. When former employees of Washington’s NFL team first complained in 2020 about rampant sexual harassment by team executives, the team hired attorney Beth Wilkinson’s firm to investigate. The league took over that probe and Wilkinson reported her findings to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The NFL fined Snyder $10 million and he temporarily ceded day-to-day operations of the franchise to his wife, Tanya. The committee launched this investigation last year after the league did not release a written report of Wilkinson’s findings.
wftv.comNFL hopes to reduce head injuries with helmet experiment
They’re called Guardian Caps, and they’re now mandatory for all 32 NFL teams through the second preseason game — the time when the league says head injuries are most prevalent. Miller said mitigating those forces “will have a cumulative effect for the betterment of health and safety of the player.”Not everyone, however, is convinced Guardian Caps are the answer. “They say the Guardian Caps add 20 percent protection,” Kelce quipped. And Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich agrees, saying the recommendation of the Guardian Caps was an “easy move.”Defining the future of Guardian Caps is not so easy. Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera is already convinced; he believes Guardian Caps can be part of the norm in the NFL.

cnbc.comAll NFL teams to enter intensive COVID-19 protocol Saturday
The NFL is placing all teams in intensive protocol starting Saturday to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 as the number of cases rises around the country. “These sustained reductions and the resulting health and safety benefits make it appropriate to implement the intensive protocols on a mandatory, league-wide basis,” Goodell said in the memo. So far, 28 teams have entered intensive protocol at some point and 16 teams have done it more than once. "Recent experience has highlighted the importance of minimizing high-risk close contacts; on multiple occasions, we have seen individuals identified on that basis test positive within a short time. It feels like a lot when we talk to the clubs as a behavior change mechanism.”Teams not having been in the intensive protocols are the Jets, Buccaneers, Seahawks and Washington.
