The four-time Grand Slam champion retired from her first-round match at the National Bank Open against Estonia's Kaia Kanepi on Tuesday due to a back injury. Kanepi had been leading 7-6 (4), 3-0 at the time of Osaka's withdrawal. She missed a significant amount of time after that French Open loss with an Achilles injury, causing her to miss Wimbledon. When Osaka competes again is unclear for now, as it obviously depends on the severity of her back injury.wftv.com
