Herrell said jail officials began testing for COVID-19 on June 4 after they began seeing symptoms. Officer Conrad Buckley was hospitalized at AdventHealth Waterman in Tavares for COVID-19 where he later died, according to a news release.
Clermont man arrested following hotel stand-off
When officers arrived at the Home2 Suites Tuesday afternoon, the man refused to exit the room, according to a statement from the Clermont Police Department. CLERMONT Clermont police officers arrested a man for felony fraud charges Tuesday afternoon after a brief stand-off at a local hotel. Joseph Mora, a 33-year-old Clermont resident, was arrested at the Home2 Suites in the 1400 block of Champions Way after officers received a tip that he had booked a room. When officers arrived at the Home2 Suites Tuesday afternoon, Mora refused to exit the room, according to a statement from the Clermont Police Department. He eventually stepped out of the room unarmed and unharmed and was booked at the Lake County Jail.

Jones said inmates often reoffend when they are released because they don't have a job, they don't have skills and they don't have motivation. Inmates doing construction don't receive credit for time served, but they do receive documentation showing the skills they learned and the time they spent. He acts like the job foreman, teaching the inmates how to build the houses.
