International competition underway for Pulse Memorial and Museum architect

ORLANDO, Fla. – The onePULSE Foundation is launching an international competition for the design of the Pulse Memorial and Museum set to open at the site of the Pulse nightclub shooting, where 49 people were killed in 2016. Pulse nightclub on June 12, 2016. The open competition will be held in two stages. “It's a tragic event that touched everyone, you know, the world watched and the world mourned, and it makes completely total sense to run a worldwide, international design competition,” Sirefman said. The Pulse Memorial and Museum will be free and open to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Federal report sheds new light on OPD's Pulse response

The report outlines the timeline of events for that day, including the minutes on Jun. 12 when Pulse shooter Omar Mateen parked his rented car at the Pro Tint & Detailing shop and began walking toward the nightclub. Read: Pulse Victims RememberedThe report released observations and lessons that the agency should learn from, including the initial response in the six minutes before officers entered the club after the attack began. The report also noted that a greater level of coordination was needed at the scene and across the agencies. Their body armor "did not provide sufficient protection against the .223 caliber rounds fired by the suspect," the report outlines.

Akyra Monet Murray: Adored young ‘leader,' basketball star

Akyra Monet Murray, 18, recently graduated West Catholic Preparatory High School in Philadelphia and was known as a strong player on her basketball team. Her coach Beulah Osueke said in a statement that Murray was “a natural leader to her teammates and all that observed her from far.”Murray scored more than 1,000 points during her high school basketball career. Murray’s high school honored her memory during the first basketball game of the season in December 2016, reported Philly.com. The night of the shooting Murray was with her friend, Patience Carter and cousin, Tiara Parker. "She was the life of the party, everyone loved her, everyone adored her," Carter said of Murray.

Tevin Crosby: Entrepreneur always there with advice, a helping hand

Ryan Crosby said his cousin, Tevin Crosby would often help his family. "He was the type of person you could go to for advice,” Ryan Crosby said. A year after losing Tevin, Ryan Crosby said he remains speechless. "Every time it is brought up, it is hard to believe it's true,” Ryan Crosby said. Crosby is survived by his mother and father, Earl and Lisa, of Statesville, North Carolina; his brother, Chavis Crosby of Durham, North Carolina and his sister Shenetra (Walter) Harris of Statesville.
