Riquna Williams steps up off the bench to help Las Vegas Aces clinch WNBA championship
It was the star-studded starters who led the Las Vegas Aces to their first championship in franchise history on Sunday night at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Sun were making a patented late push to force a Game 5 back in Las Vegas. Plum hit her for a 3-pointer in the corner to get the lead back, 70-69, and again on an open look the following possession to make it 73-71. It was her 20-foot step-back jumper with 53.2 seconds left — again, assisted by Plum — that essentially called game. That’s why Williams, a 10-year veteran who has spent the last two years in Las Vegas, is called the microwave.

Riquna Williams hit another triple, before the Sun missed a shot and were blocked by Chelsea Gray. Williams hit a big jumper before the Sun were forced to call a timeout, but the game was all but over by then. Kelsey Plum finished it off with a jumper in the lane to give the Aces a 77-71 lead.

Williams hit a 3 with 8.9 seconds left for Las Vegas before Charles missed her foul shots. Wilson put Las Vegas ahead 90-89 with a spinning drive in the lane with 2.2 seconds left. The Womens' National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) said it disagrees with the suspension and is filing a grievance. Williams has been with the Sparks since 2016 after playing four seasons with the Tulsa Shock.
