Pardon ends Meek Mill's legal odyssey on drug, gun charges

“I got pardoned today,” the 35-year-old rapper born Robert Williams tweeted, noting he has come a long way. Williams was pardoned of gun and drug charges. At a 2008 trial, a judge found Williams guilty of drug and gun charges and sentenced him to about one to two years in jail followed by 10 years of probation. Williams spent months in prison before he was released, and a Pennsylvania appeals court overturned his conviction in 2019 because new evidence undermined the credibility of the arresting officer. The next month, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge in a deal that resolved the 2007 arrest.

2022-23 Fantasy Basketball: Does the loss of Ime Udoka move Jayson Tatum outside of the first round?

The Boston Celtics reportedly suspended head coach Ime Udoka for one year effective immediately and tabbed Celtics assistant head coach Joe Mazzulla as the interim head coach for the 2022-2023 season. Training camp is only a couple of weeks away, and the Celtics will lose their head coach and center Robert Williams to start the season in a matter of days. But from a fantasy perspective, I think the value and outlook for Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and Al Horford remain status quo. So the good news is, I don't expect the Celtics game plan to change under Joe Mazzulla — he was the top assistant to Ime Udoka after Will Hardy's departure. At 34 years old, he is the youngest head coach in the NBA, along with Will Hardy.

Virginia lawmakers OK lifting ban on facial technology use

On Thursday, just eight months after the ban took effect, lawmakers approved a bill to lift the blanket ban. Several lawmakers said they viewed the ban passed last year as a temporary measure to allow the legislature to evaluate facial recognition technology. Marcia "Cia" Price cited the case of Robert Williams, a Black man who was arrested by Detroit police when facial recognition technology mistakenly identified him as a shoplifting suspect. The ban applied to local and campus police departments, but not to Virginia State Police. The legislation directs Virginia State Police to develop a model policy on the investigative uses of facial recognition technology.

Couple spends $120,000 bank mistakenly put into their account

Pixabay(CNN) - A Pennsylvania couple is facing felony theft charges after their bank accidentally put $120,000 in their account, and the couple spent most of it instead of contacting the bank, police said. The bank error occurred May 31 when a customer in Georgia made a deposit of $120,000, and the BB&T Bank teller entered a wrong account number. The bank credited the correct account with the $120,000 and debited the same amount from the incorrect one, the affidavit said. Both Tiffany and Robert Williams told investigators they knew the money didn't belong to them, according to the affidavit. Nate Weaver, a neighbor of the couple, told WNEP that the allegations are "kind of shocking."

Rapper Meek Mill granted new trial on 2008 drugs, weapons convictions

A three-judge Pennsylvania Superior Court panel agreed that Philadelphia Judge Genece Brinkley, who presided over a 2008 trial that resulted in his conviction, was no longer impartial, as Meek Mills attorneys have argued. The sole witness against Meek Mill at his 2008 trial was a discredited Philadelphia narcotics squad officer who is no longer with the citys police force. In November 2017, Brinkley sentenced the rapper to up to four years in prison, saying a pair of arrests violated probation conditions she set following his 2008 convictions. The Philadelphia District Attorneys Office said in a statement it welcomed the appeals court decision and was reviewing its options regarding a new trial. Slideshow (2 Images)Chuck Peruto, an attorney for Judge Brinkley, said it was unusual for the district attorney to agree that a defendant deserves a new trial.
