Groveland's former police chief filed a lawsuit on Wednesday after he was oustered following news that a sergeant in his department had been speeding at 100 mph to get to work, according to court records obtained by News 6.

A Groveland police sergeant who was found to have been speeding more than 100 mph in a department vehicle while on his way to work has resigned from the force. The city confirmed Sgt. Alexander Jarell’s resignation on Friday, effective immediately.

A termination notice says Shawn Ramsey was fired after city officials determined his punishment of a sergeant who repeatedly drove more than 100 mph on the way to work was too lenient.

Groveland Police Chief Shawn Ramsey is no longer employed by the city. The city confirmed on Tuesday that Ramsey was no longer the police chief, but provided no information as to what happened.

When the officer was notified of the internal investigation he submitted his resignation with the Groveland Police Department, according to the city.
