AdUltimately, Orlandoโs Housing Authority decided to demolish the buildings in Jonestown and relocate Black residents to a public housing development in Parramore called Griffin Park. Today, Parramore is known for its predominantly Black roots, most of which derived from those who lived in a community once known as Jonestown.

In a reflection of the series of national traumas from last year, another issue moved sharply up Americans' priority list for 2021 โ racial inequality. Even so, the impact of the virus dominates Adams' top issue: the economy. It remains a higher priority for Republicans, with 24% mentioning immigration, though that is down from 51% one year ago. Even as it falls lower on Americansโ priority list, Biden is expected to send a massive immigration overhaul bill to Congress on the first day of his presidency.

The Vatican is arranging for them, and any of the cardinals who might not make it, to participate in the ceremony remotely from their homes. Among the new voting age cardinals is the first African-American, Cardinal-designate Wilton Gregory, archbishop of Washington, D.C. He too is concluding his quarantine in the Santa Marta hotel, where he said his meals are left on a tray outside his door.

Buried in the Black cemetery are pioneers of the sponge docks and a Confederate soldier. But why not include all local Black cemeteries, she asked, from the endangered and forgotten to the lost, erased and recently found? โLet the people know our history because so much of our Black history has been depressed, ignored and forgotten. He believes keeping it community-owned is why it lasted while other Black cemeteries were abandoned, lost, destroyed or erased.

For the last 19 years, Young climbed the ranks at the Daytona Beach Police Department and served the last three years as Deputy Chief. โYou have a police chief who wants to do nothing more than to be a blessing to this city,โ said Young.
