Residents of an Orange County neighborhood are adjusting their routines after a large coyote was repeatedly spotted near homes, prompting warnings from neighbors and guidance from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on how to protect pets and deter the animal.

A resident in Orlando’s Audubon Park neighborhood said she’s recently seen coyotes in the area — and worries about what that could mean for outdoor small pets.

A College Park woman says coyotes have killed her feral cats and cost her thousands of dollars in prevention efforts — but wildlife officials say relocation isn't an option.

City leaders are giving Winter Park and Orange County residents a chance to weigh in on coyote safety.

This Florida city has set traps, but residents are still being urged to be careful and to keep pets indoors, according to News 6 partner News4JAX.

Expect to see more coyotes across central Florida in the coming months. Joshua Morera, an experienced trapper with Spartan Wildlife Recovery, says mating season starts in January. He's been getting more calls from families who have spotted the animals near their homes.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Dozens of residents in Orlando’s College Park neighborhood met with officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on Tuesday to discuss recent coyote sightings. Wildlife officials said they have received 18 calls in the College Park area over the past six months. Some residents said coyotes have been attacking their pets in recent weeks and are often seen during daylight hours. FWC officers said coyotes mate in December, with the pups arriving in early spring. Wildlife officers said homeowners can reduce sightings by picking up pet food that is left outside and securing all garbage.
