Construction is underway on a new roundabout in New Smyrna Beach, at a busy intersection that’s seen both tragedy and history.

One fire is in the area of Tomoka Farms Road and Halifax, while another fire is in the area of I-95 and U.S. 92. Both are west of Daytona Beach. The third fire is in the area of U.S. 92 and West Parkway near DeLand.

A 74-year-old Ormond Beach woman was killed and two other people suffered serious injuries in a head-on crash in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 51-year-old Daytona Beach man was killed and a 17-year-old was injured in a single-vehicle wreck in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The fatal wreck was reported at 10:40 p.m. Sunday on Tomoka Farms Road at Town West Boulevard. The FHP said the 51-year-old was driving a car north on Tomoka Farms Road when he drove off the road for an unknown reason and overcorrected. Troopers said the car went back across the road and struck a power pole. The teen, also of Daytona Beach, was taken to Halifax Medical Center with serious injuries, the FHP said.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 70-year-old man was killed in a crash involving two motorcycles and pickup truck Thursday evening in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash happened around 4 p.m. near Tomoka Farms Road and Country Circle. The FHP said two motorcycles were traveling south on Tomoka Farms Road when a pick-p truck slowed to make a turn. Troopers said one of the motorcyclists, Steven Werner, struck the back of the pickup. After the initial crash, the second motorcyclist, Naome Bowman, 73, was unable to stop and struck Werner, according to troopers.
