Boy, 2, killed after being ejected from vehicle in Leesburg rollover crash

Several others injured in crash on US Highway 441

LEESBURG, Fla. – A 2-year-old boy died after being ejected from a vehicle in a rollover crash that injured several other people Tuesday in a Leesburg crash, officials said.

The crash, which involved two vehicles, was reported just after 10:30 a.m. on U.S. 441 and Fern Drive.

Police said it appears a Ford Explorer with eight people inside was driving north on U.S. Highway 441 when some type of collision occurred with the Ford Taurus, which had one driver in it. The driver of the SUV then lost control, crossed the center raised median and overturned at least one time, coming to a rest on its roof in the southbound lanes, according to police.

Police said the boy was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries. Three others from the SUV were airlifted to area trauma centers and the remaining passengers were taken to local hospitals by ambulance. Their conditions were not released.

 

The names of the victims are not being released, pending next-of-kin notifications.

The crash remains under investigation.
