Sinkhole causes lane closures in Ocala

Sinkhole located on 31st Street

OCALA, Fla. – A sinkhole that opened up in Ocala will be impacting traffic over the weekend.

The sinkhole is located on 31st Street.

The eastbound lanes of SE 31st Street are currently experiencing settlement and are showing signs of ground instability, said Officials.

Ocala officials said sinkholes in the median and outside of the right-of-way will be filled Saturday.

Eastbound lanes and the inside westbound lane will remain closed over the weekend.

Permanent repair work will begin Monday, Aug. 15.

There are two detours available until the sinkholes are repaired.

To take the eastbound detour, travel north on SE 18th and 19th Avenue, east on SE 17th Street and south on SE 36th Avenue.

Drivers can also travel south on SE 19th Avenue, east on SE 38th Avenue and north on SE 36th Avenue.
