ORLANDO, Fla. – A large tree that toppled after hours of heavy rain from what became Tropical Storm Julia blocked a busy street near a school in Orlando.
[TRAFFIC: Check conditions for your commute]
The tree fell late Tuesday night onto Kaley Street, blocking the road at Osceola Avenue near Boone High School.
Parents and students were forced to take detours as they headed to class, making some late.
Kaley was closed to traffic in both directions, but the roadway reopened around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
A man who lives nearby say the noise woke him out of his sleep around 11:30 p.m.
"It woke me up,it was pretty loud. It was crackling, a crackling sound," Rich Jancheson said.
The tree was old, homeowner Tina Dupuis wanted to remove it but it was protected by the city. She was relieved it didn't fall on her home.
"Thirteen is my lucky number and it happened last night on the 13th, so luck went my way, it ended up on to Kaley and luckily no one was hurt."
No injuries were reported.
