Big rig overturns, catches fire on I-95 in Brevard County

PALM BAY, Fla. – A tractor-trailer hauling hay erupted in flames early Thursday on Interstate 95 in Brevard County after crashing and overturning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported on I-95 south at mile marker 164 near Grant-Valkaria.

Southbound lanes of the interstate were closed for a 15-mile stretch from the Malabar Road exit to the Fellsmere exit in Indian River County. One lane of I-95 later reopened.

Motorists were diverted onto Malabar Road, creating congested conditions in the area. Alternate routes included U.S. 1 and Babcock Street heading south.

At least one person was injured in the crash, but no other details have been released.
