1 dead, 2 hurt in Daytona Beach rollover crash

Car crashes into tree, goes airborne near marina

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – One man was killed and two others were injured early Monday in a rollover crash in Daytona Beach, police said.

The fatal single-vehicle wreck was reported around 3 a.m. on Beach Street not far from Cedar Street near the Halifax Harbor Marina.

Police said a silver Pontiac was speeding north on Beach Street when the driver lost control and struck a tree. The car went airborne and the roof hit a tree, police said.

Alex Thomas, 23, died in the crash, according to police. 

Marquise Jenkins, 25, and Danquelle Nash, 23, suffered critical injuries and were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center, police said.

It's not known who was driving.

Beach Street was closed in the area as police conducted an investigation.
