Driver of other vehicle suffers minor injuries

A woman was killed in a crash in Lake County, troopers say.

CLERMONT, Fla. – A woman was killed Friday in a crash on the Florida Turnpike in Lake County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal crash was reported around 11:50 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the turnpike at State Road 50 in Clermont.

Troopers said a Saturn was partially in the merge lane and partially in the right lane when the back of it was struck by the front of a Toyota pickup truck.

The impact of the crash caused the Saturn vehicle to travel off the roadway and into the treeline, according to the report.

The driver of the Saturn, 32-year-old Sheena Phillip, died at an area hospital. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the truck, 25-year-old Garrett Marks, suffered minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
