UPDATE: SR-408 in Orlando reopens after driver dies in crash with 2 fire trucks

Police investigated fatal wreck on SR-408 at Andes Avenue

ORLANDO, Fla. – State Road 408 in Orlando reopened Friday after a driver was killed when a vehicle crashed into two fire trucks, police said.

The fatal wreck happened around 2:30 a.m. on eastbound S.R. 408 at Andes Avenue.

Orlando police said firefighters were at the scene of a crash when another vehicle crashed into the fire trucks.

“The crews of Engine 6 & Tower 6 were attending to another emergency call when a vehicle struck both units. Tragically, the driver’s injuries were fatal. All firefighters on scene are OK,” the Orlando Fire Department tweeted later in the day.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

No firefighters were injured.

Rain fell across Central Florida on Friday, but the cause of the crash is under investigation.

S.R. 408 east was closed after the wreck but reopened just before 8 a.m. Friday.

No other details have been released.
