According to an FHP crash report, the pedestrian — identified as a 29-year-old Merritt Island man — was lying in the northbound lane of Banana River Drive in the direct path of the SUV.

As a result, the SUV struck the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states.

Troopers said the 57-year-old Merritt Island woman driving the SUV “advised that when she arrived to her residence she saw the extent of damage to her vehicle and contacted law enforcement to report that she collided with debris in the roadway.”

The crash remains under investigation.
