Man dies after being struck by car while riding bicycle in Bithlo, troopers say

Crash occurred on E Colonial Drive at 3rd Street

BITHLO, Fla. – A 59-year-old Christmas man died after being struck by a car while riding a bicycle through Bithlo, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday on E. Colonial Drive at 3rd Street, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the man was traveling south across the travel lanes of E. Colonial Drive when he entered the direct path of a sedan heading eastbound in the inside lane. The front right of the car then struck the bicyclist, the report states.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to FHP. Neither of the sedan’s two occupants were injured and they remained at the scene, troopers said.

FHP is still investigating.
