1 killed, 4 hurt when SUV strikes tree along I-4 in Volusia, FHP says

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A woman was killed and four people suffered serious injuries when the SUV they were taking through Volusia County ran off the road and struck a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 10:49 a.m. Monday, along westbound Interstate 4 at mile marker 125, near Daytona Beach, troopers said.

According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the SUV ran off the roadway to the left and onto the median before striking a tree and overturning several times.

The SUV’s driver and three passengers were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, the report states. A fourth passenger, whom troopers described as a woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.

A roadblock was established in the inside lane of westbound I-4 at mile marker 125, troopers said.

FHP is still investigating.
