The FHP said two vehicles were driving south in the center lane of I-95 just north of County Road 512 when the man crossed the southbound lanes to retrieve a turtle in the road.
The driver in front slowed to avoid the man, but the other vehicle, a 2020 Dodge Ram, failed to slow down in time, striking the rear of the front car, which hit the man, an FHP crash report stated.
Authorities said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Although the front car ran off the road and collided with a fence after the collision, no other injuries occurred, troopers said.
