ORLANDO, Fla. – A Eustis man was arrested after he fatally struck a 43-year-old man riding a bicycle Monday morning in a hit-and-run crash on Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The wreck happened around 9:20 a.m. on South Orange Blossom Trail near 43rd Street.

According to a crash report, the bicyclist was in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a dark-colored pickup truck.

Troopers said the truck was later found abandoned and on fire behind a nearby business. A witness provided troopers with information on the driver and a person matching the description has been “detained,” FHP said.

On Monday, FHP announced that Jermaine Williams, 42, was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail for leaving the scene of a crash involving death. As of Wednesday morning, he bonded out of jail.

The FHP said the bicyclist was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call FHP at *347 or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.

Southbound lanes of OBT were closed in the area but lanes have since reopened.

An investigation is ongoing.
