Lanes reopen after big rig hauling excavator strikes I-75 bridge in Marion County

NW 66th Street bridge damaged in crash

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A semi hauling a large excavator on a flatbed trailer struck a bridge Friday on Interstate 75 in Marion County, damaging the overpass and prompting the closure of the interstate, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 10 a.m. on I-75 north.

The FHP said a 71-year-old Ocala man was driving the big rig that hit the bridge. He was not injured, the FHP said.

The Florida Department of Transportation said all northbound lanes of I-75 were closed at County Road 484 after the SW 66th Street Bridge was struck, but have since reopened. Traffic cameras later showed traffic getting by in the left lane.
