Driver killed when tree falls, crushes car in Central Florida

Wildwood police ask drivers to avoid Marsh Bend Trail and McNeill Drive

WILDWOOD, Fla. – A driver was killed Thursday in Sumter County when a tree fell and crushed their car, which was traveling on Marsh Bend Trail in Wildwood, police said.

The fatal incident happened around 10:10 a.m. on Marsh Bend Trail near McNeil Drive in Wildwood.

Wildwood police said the vehicle was traveling south when a “naturally falling tree” struck it.

The driver, the only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

In a Facebook post, the Wildwood Police Department asked drivers to avoid the area.

“Please stay clear of the area of Marsh Bend Trail and McNeil Drive as our officers conduct their investigation,” the post stated.

Wildwood is located near The Villages, about 50 miles northwest of Orlando.

No other details have been released.
