Man killed, woman hurt in crash with tractor-trailer in Lake County, FHP says

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A crash early Friday in Lake County killed a man, injured a woman and forced the temporary closure of County Road 48 west of Bushnell, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 6 a.m. on C.R. 48 near its intersection with SW 75th Drive, troopers said.

According to a statement from FHP, a 70-year-old Dade City man driving a Toyota Camry eastbound on C.R. 48 collided nearly head-on with a westbound tractor-trailer after crossing over into the westbound lane for an unknown reason.

The Dade City man was pronounced dead at the scene while his passenger, a 37-year-old Dade City woman, was hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries, the statement reads.

The 42-year-old Lehigh Acres man driving the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash, troopers said.
